8 years since her life changed forever. Body changed, plans shifted, but one thing stayed the same- her unwavering faith in God. She says, “No two injuries are alike and healing isn’t a competition.”
It’s been 8 years since the day my life changed forever. My plans changed, my body changed, but the one thing that’s remained constant is God’s faithfulness. With each year that passes I’m more and more amazed at how far the Lord has taken me.

If you would have asked me what a spinal cord injury was before my accident I wouldn’t have had a clue. I didn’t know that it was possible for half of your body to become paralyzed the way mine has. Now, this is a subject that I could go on and on about forever, but I’ll just say the *very* basics about what a spinal cord injury is.
A spinal cord injury is damage to the spinal cord, which can cause permanent changes in movement, strength, sensation, and other functions below the level of injury.
The spinal cord is a group of nerves that carries signals from the brain to the rest of your body. In other words, if your spinal cord is damaged, signals can’t get from your brain to other parts of your body. So when my brain tells my legs to move, they don’t hear it.

Every single injury is different. This is hard to understand because you can’t compare yourself to someone else even if their level of injury is the same as yours. Their strength, movement, feeling, etc. could all have been affected differently than you. It’s super hard to see people with my same level of injury or even below with more function than me, but everyone heals differently.
Every injury is different.
I wouldn’t change this journey that God had put me through for anything. Here’s to another year.
