A woman battling with a declining kidney health since childhood experienced something no less than a miracle. Finding a donor and not just a donor, the DNA was so close, they could be twins! Through family, faith, and steady hands, a miracle was made!
Four years! This will always be a favorite story to share – that I was able to give life! @meredithfarmerdeal as a young child contracted a rare form of E. coli that attacked her kidneys. She then lived with declining kidney health for twenty years – a trooper! We as a family knew that she would need a kidney transplant one day – but that day was unknown.

It could be today, it could be tomorrow… she could be a child, an adolescent or and adult. Four years ago, the time for a transplant became apparent. The family was tested first as possible donor candidates – and we were advised during the testing process that family relation doesn’t guarantee being a match. Except, in twins… “but we are not twins” I stated to the nephrology team. And the physician said, “You are a direct, perfect match. The type we see in twins.” So we celebrate!

That divine matching miracle, the gift of life, modern medicine and skilled physicians, medical teams and nurses, friends and family who fed us and helped us heal. We celebrate health today for both of us, and the hope for those who are on this path. “The Lord has promised good to me…” which are my favorite words in “Amazing Grace.”

The transplant was right at the anniversary of losing our mother too, so the promise of good was clung to and truly celebrated today! Happy Transplant Anniversary!
