A Kind Soul, A Loving Father, and a Cherished Friend

A Kind Soul, A Loving Father, and a Cherished Friend

With deep sorrow, we share the passing of Ken at age 64. Though our marriage ended years ago, the respect, friendship, and love for our son Marc always remained. This tribute honors the beautiful memories we shared, Ken’s gentle and generous spirit, and the deep impact he had on so many lives. He was one of the kindest people we knew—and he will be missed dearly.

To all friends and family who knew my first husband, Ken, I am very sorry to write that he died today at the age of 64.

On October 18 he was found unconscious with blood sugar levels below 30 and severe bleeding in the brain. He remained in a coma in a Zurich hospital. Tests indicated all brain function had ceased so life support was removed Thursday. He passed away today at 2 p.m. Swiss time.

I met him in London, he taught me how to ski, introduced me to the magic of Tolkien (and many other wonderful authors) and we shared 16 years of life together.

We divorced with mutual respect and, first and foremost, joint love for our son, Marc. It cannot be an accident that Marc was accepted to University of Zurich for graduate studies and thus able to spend more time and get closer to his dad in the final year of Kenny’s life.

I am also grateful that my first visit back to Switzerland in 20 years happened this past month. Kenny and his wife, Jacquie, invited us to their beautiful home for dinner and we caught up on news of mutual friends. My final words to Kenny as I hugged him goodbye were “love you”.

These are mostly older photos from the good ole days – but brought back great memories. I hope Jacquie and the kids (and of course Sparky, Scott and Donna) have more recent ones to share. My heart goes out to all of them, and especially to Marc, in their loss today.

As one of our college profs once said, Ken was one of the nicest people he ever met in his life. Absolute truth. He will be missed by many. Rest in peace, Kenny.
