A call that saved a life? Yes. 10 years ago, Tara received a call that saved her life. A stranger said yes to organ donation. The call now allows Tara to thrive, live, and love life. It was a gift for her that she is still thankful for daily.
It’s amazing how much time may pass us by but some memories stay as real + raw as the day they were created. Ten years ago today, in the wee hours of the morning, I got a call that literally changed my life forever.

The voice on the phone was letting me know that there were organs awaiting me in a city near by and to get there as fast (and safely) as I could. My papa was staying with me in a different hospital at the time and was there when I received my life changing call. This was the reaction. My heart was bursting with joy. In a moment, our prayers were answered and in, what seemed like minutes, we had an army of a city behind me in prayer that all would go well. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

There are no words to describe what this day means and will always mean to me, but if I had to try it would be this… Today I still feel that same joy and even deeper gratitude. To the family + friends of my donor, I’m eternally grateful. I will forever be indebted to that stranger who made a decision to donate life and the family for honouring those wishes. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

To the best family and friends anyone could ever wish to have, I’m still blown away by your love and support. The surgery that was supposed to take 9hrs took only 5 and it was because of your prayers. My recovery was made easier by your continued encouragement. I’m flooded with tears as I remember the convoy of people headed to Gainesville, the family and friends who took over and filled the waiting room, the continuous flow of visitors, the piles of cards, the BEST nursing staff and doctors. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

To the friends since, although you may not have been in my life on that day, the way you have rallied behind me since and cheer me on is amazing. ⠀⠀⠀

My life was changed because someone chose to #donatelife and today I will celebrate that. A stranger gave the most precious, most selfless gift. Ten years ago today our biggest prayer was answered, proof that God is real and is faithful. Life is a precious gift and one that I will never take for granted. 💕
